Andrea Kennedy Hart
Director, Teaching Artist, Performer, Playwright, & Dramaturg
Who is Andrea?
I am a director, playwright, performer, teaching artist, and dramaturg living and working in Berks County, PA and the surrounding areas. I received my undergraduate degree in Theatre & Women's Studies from Wellesley College and hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Boston University and an MA in Theater from Villanova University.
I love bold, innovative productions that challenge our ideas about what theater can be and what it can do. I am inspired by the work of directors like Polly Teale, Mary Zimmerman, Katie Mitchell, and Sally Cookson. As a lifelong student of the theater, I am always looking for new modes of theatrical expression. My directing style is collaborative and process-centered. I emphasize play, truth, and exploration. I am attracted to stories that explore the pain and the beauty of everyday life. I believe all theater should be magical, physical, and thought-provoking.
As a teacher, I try to cultivate a sense of curiosity and critical thinking in my students. I invite my students to explore, take risks, and embrace uncertainty, ambiguity, and spontaneity. I'm a student-centered teacher, and I aim to empower young actors, directors, writers, and citizens. I want to give people the confidence to share their stories and share their art.
